2011 Corvette

Posted by admin  Published in C6 Corvette (2005 - 20??)

Corvette for 2011 will still include something for everyone: coupe, convertible, grand sport coupe and convertible, Z-06 and ZR-1. There are numerous upgrades to the the Z-06, especially in the brakes and suspension. Also the buyer this year has more option choices across the board. After last year’s production of just over 12,000 look for this year’s production to increase as the choices to buyers give more flexibility for personalizing your Corvette. Corvette is still the best bargain available in sporting machinery as far as this author is concerned!

Makes you Wonder

Posted by admin  Published in C6 Corvette (2005 - 20??)

I came across a 2007 coupe the other day at a dealer’s lot, a base model (1LT) with the six speed manual and bright Velocity Yellow paint. The mileage was only 1,695 and the asking price was $35,495.00 (USD). Now, I have seen many a C-2 and C-3 with low miles and understand why you come across them, especially when still owned by the original owner (looking to gain a return on an investment). I do not understand why someone would buy a new one, drive it for 3-4 years as sparingly as this one was and then trade it in. Believe me, if my situation had allowed, this yellow 2007 would be residing in my garage. I mean, a ‘new’ Corvette for less than 36K, seems like a no brainer to me.

2010 grand sport

Posted by admin  Published in C6 Corvette (2005 - 20??)

the introduction of the 2010 corvette grand sport is truly amazing in that corvette now offers something for everyone. consider that this model replaces the Z-51 suspension or sport ride option in the corvette. a complete car to replace an option? but with the G/S you have your choice of coupe or convertible, 6 speed automatic or 6 speed manual, and the car is pretty close in perfomance to the Z-06 but you can still open the top up on the coupe or go topless with the convertible. larger brake calipers, generous rubber at the corners gives the car a wider footprint than the standard coupe. also, the body panels are wider with the Z-06 splitter in the front so, for a few thousand above a standard 2010 coupe you can have quite a formidable corvette to drive. great handling, very good fuel economy (*27 mpg) and skid pad numbers in the 1G range, not too bad. or you can opt for the fixed roof Z-06 or go all out and order the ZR-1!!!! whatever corvette model you desire, 2010 has pretty much covered the wish list of any performance car buff. the constant improvements in this series are most noteworthy and i believe will go to serve the collectibility aspect of this series in the future. the C-5 series seems to be holding quite a bit of it’s value and the C-6 is such a well made and optioned corvette i feel the same is in store for it. i recommend this series to anyone out there who always dreamed of being the original owner of a corvette, you will not be disappointed.

Refinements

Posted by admin  Published in C6 Corvette (2005 - 20??)

They say you can’t have your cake and eat it too but, in reviewing an article for the 1973 Corvette,Rroad and Track said “These days, the Corvette is softer and a little bit raw at the same time”. They always referred to that (C-3) series as a ‘harsh’ ride and non compliance over anything but a smooth road surface. I always enjoyed that aspect of the Corvette eg: you felt very much in contact with road and machine. Now, the reason I bring this up is because, in 2009, you have a sports car with all the creature comforts you could ever hope for and a very subtle ride over any road surface. Even with a sport suspension equipped Corvette, you get a fantastic ride. In fact, I truly enjoy any seat time i get in a C-6. They are considerably quieter that the C-5, and we all know what a great series the C-5 is. So, if you get a chance get behind the wheel of a new Corvette and see for yourself.

Corvette Price Increase

Posted by admin  Published in C6 Corvette (2005 - 20??)

GM announces a $1520.00 across the board price increase on the 2009
corvette.

  • Coupe = $48,565
  • Convertible = $53,220
  • Z-06 = $73,925
  • ZR-1 = $103,970

These
prices are before destination charges or museum delivery option.  This is not great timing on GM’s part given the current economic conditions in
the US but, I think they held the prices down as
long as they possibly could.

GM to Pause Corvette Production

Posted by admin  Published in C6 Corvette (2005 - 20??)

General Motors will pause production of the Chevrolet Corvette at the sports car’s iconic Bowling Green, Kentucky, plant for the week of October 6. When production resumes on October 13, the automaker says that some employees will be laid off and that production will be slowed.

According to Automotive News, this marks the first cut in Corvette production since 1995. Up to 75 people could be laid off as production drops from 18.5 Corvettes per hour to 15. The plant also makes the Cadillac XLR, but it’s unclear what will happen with XLR production.

The Corvette had been having a hard year thanks to a weak economy and high gas prices, though sales rebounded strongly in response to August’s “Employee Pricing for Everybody” sales event which also included 2008 Corvettes.

The ZR1 – A most impressive addition to the Corvette family

Posted by admin  Published in C6 Corvette (2005 - 20??)

Courtesy of Road & Track

“The final performance numbers for Chevrolet’s Corvette ZR1 are staggering (and the price ain’t bad either): Chevy says the LS9 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 pumps out 638 bhp and 604 lb.-ft. of torque. The company also claims the ZR1 will hit 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, 100 mph in 7.0 sec. and can run the quarter mile in 11.3 sec. at 131 mph. Top speed is 205 mph. The EPA estimated fuel economy of 14 mpg city/20 mpg highway is actually pretty good considering the level of performance we’re talking about — but the car will still carry a $1700 gas-guzzler tax on top of its $103,300 price tag.

Only two options will be available: The first is a $10,000 uplevel interior package, which adds power-adjustable, heated and leather-trimmed sport seats, side airbags, Bose premium audio, a navigation system and Bluetooth connectivity. The second option is chrome wheels, for $2000. Production will have started by the time you read this; output is capped at 2000 cars per year.

GM engineer Jim Mero clocked a 7:26.4 lap around Germany’s Nürburgring in a “bone-stock” ZR1, one of the fastest laps ever recorded by a production car.”
