The Heart of the Beast

Posted by admin  Published in C2 Corvette (1963 - 1967)

Starting in 1963 with the all new Corvette Stingray, there were engine RPO choices that started with the “L” designation.  They are for 1963:
L75 a 327 cubic inch producing 300 horse power
L76 a 327 cubi inch producing 340 horse power
and the:
L84 which was the 327 fuelie producing 360 horse power.

Catching Some Z’s

Posted by admin  Published in General

During 1970 in the C-3 series we saw the very first designation of a special Corvette package known as the ZR-1!  There were 25 cars produced with this special designation at a cost of $968.25 for the option.  1971 saw two special packages with the “Z” designation: the 350/330 h.p. ZR-1 and the 454/425 h.p. ZR-2.  There were [...]

Two Toned Corvettes

Posted by admin  Published in General

1978 saw two Corvettes produced by the factory in a two tone finish, the silver anniversary edition, light silver over charcoal and the special replica Indy pace car with a black upper over silver lower.  Two toned Corvettes would not appear again until late 1981 when production was moved (or more correctly) started at the all [...]

Missed Opportunities

Posted by admin  Published in General

Chevrolet missed a few opportunities with the Corvette with the exclusions of certain “anniversary” editions.  You have to wonder why no 10th, 20th, or even after they started in 1978 with the 25th, they did not go for a 30th as no 1983 Corvettes were produced for  sale to the general public.  They came back in [...]

C-5 Series

Posted by admin  Published in C5 Corvette (1997 - 2004)

The 1997 Corvette brought in the C-5 series and it was a brief 7 model year run from 1997-2004 with some very nice high tech Corvettes in this series.  1997 were all coupes and production topped out at 9,752 with about 1/3rd sporting the 6 speed manual transmission (2809) so, the manual shifter ’97 is a rarity .  The [...]

C-4 Series

Posted by admin  Published in C4 Corvette (1984 - 1996)

A 12 year run from 1984 through 1996 produced some very nice model Corvettes.  Now, the 1984’s are often maligned and current resale values are low but that is not to diminish the car for enjoyment and roadability. Of course, some of the stellar models in this series are:
1986 corvette was chosen to pace the [...]

Indianapolis Pace Cars

Posted by admin  Published in General

Corvette has now paced the great American race more than any other make or model.  It started in May of 1978 when a C-3 black over silver performed the duties, driven by 1960  Indy winner Jim Rathman.  Chevrolet went on to produce 6,502 replica pace cars from March through May of 1978, RPO B78 with it’s own [...]

Corvette’s Future

Posted by admin  Published in General

With the current state of the  U.S. economy and the continual search for fuel alternatives, you have to wonder if the Corvette can survive?  I once had the chance to speak with Mr. Wil Cooksey, the corvette plant manager, and he told me “as long as there is a Chevrolet, there will always be a Corvette!”.  [...]

EX-122

Posted by admin  Published in C1 Corvette (1953 - 1962)

Being on the east coast (in eastern Pennsylvania) I am fortunate enough to have seen first hand the world’s oldest “living” Corvette EX-122 the Waldorf-Astoria GM 1953 Motorama show car which is currently owned by and displayed at Kerberck Chevrolet in Atlantic City, New Jersey.  This car does get around as the Kerbeck dealership takes [...]

The Sting Ray

Posted by admin  Published in C2 Corvette (1963 - 1967)

Circa 1963 Chevrolet set the automotive world on it’s ear with the introduction of the all new Corvette Sting-Ray!!  What was once an evolutionary car from 1953-1962 became a revolutionary car with the totally newly designed Sting-Ray.
Here, the buyer was offered two distinctive body styles; the open air convertible, and the fixed roof coupe (something [...]
